ESV Study Bible

I was just on DesiringGod.org and noticed on their blog section that coming October of this year, Crossway will be publishing an ESV study Bible.  Woohoo!  Here we have a great translation with some great study notes by an editorial staff that includes Wayne Grudem and J.I. Packer.  (Can’t go wrong with that!)

The ESV web site has all the information about this fantastic translation.  I just wish we didn’t have to wait all the way until October to get our hands on this study Bible.  (Hey Crossway - are you listening?  We could write up a nice review for you for a few early copies! <grin>)

Restoring Integrity

Restoring Integrity in Baptist ChurchesI just recently read two articles from a book called Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches with selections from several contemporary theologians including Mark Dever, Thomas White, Malcolm Yarnell, Jason Lee, Emir Caner, Jason Duesing, Gregory WIllis and Stanton Norman. This collection offers insight into the struggles to maintain biblical ecclesiology and the magnificent task it will be to see the restoration of a biblical understanding of church membership, baptism, the Lord’s supper, church discipline within the baptist church today.

The following is a brief snap shot of a review I did of the last chapter:

Baptists can reclaim the significance of being a member of the priesthood by gaining a better understanding of the following ecclesiastical distinctives according to Yarnell:  church discipline to the baptized alone, the inclusion of the baptized alone in the Lord’s Supper and the significance of spiritual sacrifices to God. Yarnell shows that when these distinctives alone are rightly established, the church will be able to claim the biblical doctrine of a royal priesthood.

I hope you take a moment to find this book and take a read. It’s truly been insightful in establishing a biblical ecclesiology.
